Article about national market trend puts the worst possible spin on the Hawaii data. Dizzy yet?

Mixed into this August 27, 2008 Honolulu Advertiser article on the national real estate market is a quick blurb about Hawaii home sales-and it is the most pessimistic construal of the data: In this article, they compare July 2008 against July 2007 and cite a decrease in sales. July 2007 was a record month for home sales in Hawaii – no one expected the next year’s July to match that!

What they don’t tell you is that the number of sales increased from June 2008 to July 2008 for both condos and single family homes in Hawaii. No, I did not stutter-the most current data showed an increase in sales. After hearing the doom and gloom that the media has been churning out for the past year, this may be shocking – but it’s true.

Negative media sells and guess who writes this stuff….the media. The numbers don’t lie.

It is unfair to judge Hawaii based on the mainland market. We have our unique issues and cycles.
